I spent nine hours reading this book - longer than I've ever taken before. The content wasn't difficult or lengthy, the reason it took so long was that I was experimenting with different note-taking methods. Eventually, I found one that works for me. I'll explain it in my next essay.
I found this book through the 蜜獾吃书 podcast in its 100th episode. I love this podcast; the two hosts are knowledgeable and super creative.
I was eager to study law, and knowing that Professor Luo-Xiang is a philosopher makes me curious about how he blends paradoxes, law, and philosophy together.

I hadn’t thought of that. Criminal law needs to limit the power of the state and protect everyone from harm.
In ancient times, there would be such a punishment method, they believed that harsh punishment would scare people into never committing those actions again.
It’s true. A boy experienced domestic violence from his father, and now that he’s grown up and looking for a job, his father’s criminal record is making it harder for him to find work.
Social impact theory)
The ancients said. Those who are around vermilion become red, and those who are around ink become black.
The story of Mencius’s mother moving three times illustrates the same principle

Master Oogway teaching Kong Fu Panda: You are too concerned with what was and what will be. There’s a saying: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but, today is a gift. That is why we called it a gift.

For example, giving up your life isn’t real freedom
Maybe true freedom comes from gaining control over our desires and impulsiveness and being the master of ourselves.
This book gives us a basic understanding of the law through real-life cases. I think the key lies in the paradox itself, the author uses paradoxes to encourage us to think rationally and remind us that everything has two sides. Recognize your limitations and stay humble.
